W-Day #28

YAY! WOOHOOO! I am happy to report that I'm down 1 lb... BUT I'm extremely happy to report that this 1 lb gets me over the big 3-0! I have been eagerly waiting and waiting and waiting for this day. Hitting this mark has made me realize that everything I'm doing is worth it. Saying no when my co-workers offer me french fries, choosing steamed broccoli over creamed spinach, freezing my tush off walking to go work-out, finally my new "habits" are PAYING OFF! Getting this initial 30 lbs off has enabled me with the confidence I need to get to my final goal. I feel motivated, I feel focused, I feel capable and most importantly I feel GREAT!

these boots were made for walking...

As many of you know it's ONLY January and NYC has seen a handful of snow storms already! I'm not sure how I survived 2 winters without snow/rain boots but just a few weeks ago I gave in and bought some (pictured). They are super comfy and warm! I feel totally "City" plowing right through puddles and piles of snow like it's my job. We're expecting more snow tonight so last night in my meeting we were talking about how many calories you burn walking vs walking in the SNOW. I was shocked when my leader said it can be more than double!

This morning I was reading an article and came across this,

"The amount of calories burned from walking depends on speed and terrain. Imagine walking from your car to your workplace in perfect weather conditions and on level ground. If you were a 150-lb. person of average build, you would burn about 136 calories per hour with this type of walking. But make that walk uphill in the snow (much like a story your grandpa probably told you), and the rate can jump to over 400 calories an hour."

Who said snow was a bad thing?!?!

W-Day #27 and VERY EXCITING NEWS!!!!!!

Yesterday was not only the first weigh in of 2011 but it was also my first official weigh in since I veered off course during Christmas. With that said, I squinted my eyes while I stepped on the scale waiting to hear the verdict. Joyce my regular lady was not there (which also gave me a bad feeling, stupid I know but these things tend to matter to me). I opened my eyes and much to my surprise I was down .2 lbs! Normally I'd probably question such a tiny loss BUT this week I felt a sense of relief, gave the lady a high five and jumped off that scale!

So now the super exciting news!!!! After my "glorious" weigh in I was gathering my things and putting on my jacket, hat, scarf... yes, I hate winter already and it's only January, when this woman approached me. She introduced herself as the assistant editor of Weight Watchers magazine and she was there to cast a few people for success stories to be published in the mag. She asked if I'd be interested and if I had a few minutes to chat and for her to get some PHOTOS! I was in my most natural state as I had just come from Pilates but I figured, um, no brainer here, heck yea I'm interested! We talked for a few mins, she basically asked me questions about where I started, how many lbs until I was at goal, if I was doing the program alone or with a friend, etc. After the Q & A she snapped probably about 10 pics of me, face shots, some EXTREMELY close and BODY shots as well, yikes! I should hear back in a few weeks if the Editor picks me and then it's a real photo shoot, a full story and I'd be published in the mag!!! Watch out Jennifer Hudson... there's a new girl in town!

Better late than never, right?!?

How is it already halfway into the first month of 2011? I guess the saying is true, time flies when you're having fun and that's exactly what we've been doing! Between Christmas parties, traveling to NC, and celebrating the New Year trying to stay on plan this Holiday season has been a challenge. This year was my first official WW Christmas and I'll be the first to admit I'm not so sure I succeeded. Avoiding the scale like the plague, I was a little shocked how "off course" I managed to go. Instead of beating myself up about the cheesecake I ate or the second helping of sweet potato casserole I took I'm going to focus on the positive. I'm starting off this year 29.6 lbs less than where I was a year ago and that deserves a "bravo." I've set two New Years resolutions that I know will get me to my final GOAL. The first is MOVE more and the second... BLOG more!

Happy One Year Anniversary to 'what goes UP must come DOWN'

W-Day #26

Almost, almost, almost there... so close in fact I can FEEL it! I am excited to post that I am down another 1 lb which means I am only .6 away from the big 3-0 lbs of total weight loss. This week was extremely challenging thanks to Holiday parties, and most of all those overflowing baskets of goodies every where I turn in the office. A bunch of our clients send HUGE baskets of chocolates, cookies, cheeses, crackers, etc. and when the "norm" is to sit there and pick on this stuff all day it's easy to forget about WW. Apparently not being normal paid off this week. Lets just hope I can continue to be ab-normal!

W-Day #25

I went to weigh yesterday and all I can say is... I'll take it! I am down .4 lbs and I know it seems like nothing unless you're on the WW plan. Getting on that scale week after week makes you realize a loss is a loss and even those weeks they are tiny will add up to something big in the end! I have learned to be patient with my weight loss and it's motivated me to keep going and to not give up like I have done in the past. I am also at a weight that I have not seen in a long, long time and it's proof those "tiny weeks" have gotten me there!

Let's all give THANKS

I hope all of you had a fabulous Thanksgiving! Christo and I enjoyed a relaxing day of delicious food, good wine and hanging out with my parents, cousins, aunts and uncles. I went into this Holiday with a completely different mindset than I have had in the past. In the past no matter my hunger level I would dig in on Thanksgiving Day like it was literally the last supper. This year I celebrated WW style; I started the day with a walk/run at the river with Christo, ate a small breakfast and didn't "pick" prior to actually sitting down to eat dinner! At the end of the day I felt satisfied and extremely pleased about how I handled this Thanksgiving. It also didn't hurt to get some compliments about how great I looked from family I haven't seen in a while. Overall a successful, rewarding, WW approved Thanksgiving. Now it's time to prepare for Christmas... ahhh!
